Constitutional Law
Constitutional law is a body of law based on a ratified constitution or similar formative charter dealing with the fundamental principles by which a government exercises its authority. These principles typically define the roles and powers of the various branches of the government and the basic rights of the people.
The Constitutional Court is an independent body, which regulates the application of the Constitution regulations. It may reverse or adjourn laws, decrees or decision if they are not considered to be constitutionally. It is formed by thirteen judges elected for a determined period of time of eight years and a secretary general.
Protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms prescribed by the Constitution is one of the most important competencies of the Constitutional Court of
the Republic of Croatia, beside the control of the constitutionality of laws and other regulations.
